Match Analysis of Athletic Performance

Our research group’s GPS-expert Dr Sean FitzGibbon has custom-designed a small unit that can be easily attached to players during a game or training session. Using these units, we are able to track the continuous movement of individuals throughout a game.

GPS tracking of a player through the 1st half of an actual match. The players position is noted for particular time intervals, and we have the capacity to track movement chronologically through the match.

This allows us to measure an individual’s total distance moved throughout a game, average speed and break down their movement into five different categories of exertion: walking, jogging, running, run-sprint, and high intensity sprinting. Thus, we can provide a comprehensive analysis of an individual’s total exertion in a game or a training session.

Actual data obtained for the player shown above in a match.
